THEORY
OF OPERATION

U.S. Patent
No. 5,842,856 Other patents pending.
The objective
of this device is to provide the doctor /surgeon with a means to splint
together the maxilla and mandibular jaws together.
In
Case of Emergency
This device not only provides the hard wear for fixation, it also provides
a means of release of fixation, without the need of wire cutters and
/ or scissors being positioned (between arch bars, cheeks and teeth)
to cut wires and or rubber bands.
The
Mode of Operation is a Basic Ripcord Methodology
The Adjustable Loop arch bar
has, instead of tabs projecting off of a flat band of material, a series
of adjustable loops, which provide a channel to facilitate for insertion
of the Release bars on each side of dental arches.
This Release Bar is utilized to keep the wiring on the sides and upper
portion of the adjustable loop while dental arches are wired together.
The Release Bar when grasped by its handle and drawn from the channel
releases the wires holding the dental arches together allowing the patient
to open their mouth in case of emergency.
Inter
Maxi Facial Fixation Utilizing Safety Release Arch Bar Kit
Cut arch bars to size. Place gasket provided to protect oral tissues
in most posterior loops on Adjustable Loop Arch Bar. Wire arch bars
to dental arches, preferably using Adjustable Loop arch bar on maxilla.
Place Release Bars into channel provided from Adjustable Loop arch bar.
Start insertion from anterior to posterior on both sides of arch and
into last loop, within gasket protection.
When wiring arch bar to arch bar, bringing the dental arches into IMF,
the wiring on the Adjustable Loop arch bar differs in that the tie wires
must be placed over the top of the loop portion or portions, between
facial aspect of arch bar and behind the Release Bar, then wire to opposing
arch bar tabs. Lastly, tightening ligature wires, which conclude IMF.
